NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control), has estimated that up to 50% of some branded drugs in Nigeria are either illegally imported or are imitations. Even legitimate Pharmacies are often unable to recognise genuine from fake products.
In addition, several international brands are unofficially imported and subsequently traded in Nigeria without being properly licenced by NAFDAC and without proper distribution controls.
